Last big batch of Walnut trees in the ground

This October the last 4 full rows of trees went into the ground, thanks to Frank P. Matthews Ltd for their high quality grafted trees yet again.

This year we’ve added more Franquette for their outstanding flavour and as pollinators along with Sieferdorfer an East German bred walnut and Apollo another Czech variety.  As with all the other walnuts we’ve planted they were selected for their size, flavour, cropping and hardiness.

In addition we’ve planted a row of ‘Test’ varieties mainly from Central & Eastern Europe but also China.  These were selected because they have the potential to be very good in our climate both for oil and fruit, some also have red kernels which brings us 9 different red varieties, hopefully many will prove to be successful with us in S. Warwickshire.
